Good Morning Teams,

I hope you and your team had a wonderful 4th of July. I hope you won't mind several clarifications.

Team Support Equipment
Teams need to bring a pop-up tent to provide shade at the required solar car displays.

Teams are free to work on their cars during these displays, or charge their batteries using their solar array. As a matter of fact, the public would probably enjoy watching you work on your car.

Team Attire
The Solar Car Challenge is based on the philosophy of "cooperation rather than competition." Our event focuses on bringing teams together through the camaraderie of the solar car experience.

In keeping with this philosophy, we ask that team attire, banners, and printed materials focus on their solar car team logo, "school pride," or school. No attire, banners, or printed materials will be allowed that seek to promote any political candidate or philosophy. Failure to follow this guideline will result in the team being disqualified from the event.

Rule 6.1.2 Clarification
Rule 6.1.2 provides that in a cross-country event, teams will drive or trailer their solar car on a specified route over the course of several days. The team driving the most miles in their solar car over the course of the event will be declared the winner. The team completing the same number of miles with a higher average speed for solar car miles driven will place higher than the other team.

Clarification of factors affecting a team's average speed:
(1) Teams can drive from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. One hour during the day is "off-the-clock" due to two Rest Stops (15 minutes each) and one Lunch Stop (30 minutes). Teams are free to exchange drivers or make small repairs.

(2) Teams automatically go back "on-the-clock" if they stay longer at a Rest Stop or Lunch Stop. It is their choice to stay longer, therefore they are back "on-the-clock."

(3) Teams are automatically "off-the-clock" during required trailering sections of the race. This provides teams the opportunity to make longer repairs, or do extra charging without being "on-the-clock."

For instance, teams are required to trailer from Burnett, TX to Johnson City, TX. You can take as much time as you want during this required trailering. This was designed so that you could enjoy the country side and make side trips... or make repairs. Once you resume driving the race in Johnson City (to Fredericksburg), you are back "on-the-clock."

Texas Licensing of Solar Cars
We are pleased to provide license plates to teams. The plate must be placed on the solar car at a place of your choosing, but visible to a casual observer. The licensing document must be carried in the 1st Chase Vehicle. You will get license plates at Team Check-In.
