The world that we live in today is so different than just 30 days ago .... and will continue to dramatically change over the next few months. No one really knows what is going to happen.

I am keenly aware that students, teachers, chaperones, and judges are highly concerned about this summer’s Solar Car Challenge. Please know that your health and safety are my Number One Priority!

I know that students are concerned about all the hard work they have invested in their solar car. Rest assured that we will do our best to make good decisions for everyone.

Here are our major concerns:
(1) Will the coronavirus have run its course by mid-July?
(2) Will it be dangerous to attend this large group activity?
(3) Will teams have the opportunity to complete work on their solar car with school closings?

I have decided not to take any action today which would affect the 2020 Solar Car Challenge. I will make a major announcement no later than April 8th after I hear from more schools, and can better assess the scope of this pandemic.

I invite you to share your thoughts with me at marks@solarcarchallenge.org I want you to feel a part of this decision-making. I may not answer every comment, but I will read and carefully weigh your thoughts and recommendations.
