Solar Car Challenge Event Update - March 7th - Multiple Items

Good Morning Solar Car Teams,

After developing my own solar car team, I always felt a sigh of relief after completing the Official Registration Packet. Even so, we need to start focusing on the tasks ahead. This Event Update will help set out important steps ahead:

Registration Packet
(1) At this point, teams should have mailed their hard copy registration packet, and emailed their digital registration packet.
(2) Be sure to separately email a digital team photo.
(3) Registration Packets not postmarked by March 1st will be subject to the late registration fee.

Trailer
Each solar car team must have a trailer to transport their solar car.

Support Vehicles
Each solar car must be accompanied by three vehicles:
(a) One Lead Car, fitted with a flashing amber light
(b) Two Chase Cars, fitted with a flashing amber light and four rear-facing ECCO lights attached on each chase vehicle (Rule 19.2.2.8)

Extra Persons on Race
The Race is based on teams bringing a total of 14 students & advisors. If teams bring more than 14 people, there will be an adjustment fee of $150/person paid at Team Check-In.

Awards Banquet
Teams are free to bring guests to the Awards Banquet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Banquet tickets are $20/person if purchased by June 1st. Tickets purchased after June 1st are $30/person. All persons attending the Awards Banquet must have a ticket for admission.

Road Testing prior to Race
Be sure that your team schedules many weeks of road testing before your arrive at the Race. Teams traveling at less than 15 mph must trailer their vehicles. Teams should practice:
(a) Changing tires along the side of a road
(b) Loading and unloading their trailer along the side of the road

Team Safety Officer
(1) Teams must have a Team Safety Officer responsible for the welfare of the team.
(2) The Team Safety Officer must be the first person to exit vehicles along the road to set up safety cones and wave an orange warning flag.
(3) The Team Safety Officer must accompany the solar car on the side of the road, when moving in a parking lot, or moving in the Race Impound Area.

Liability Insurance
Teams must secure liability insurance on their solar car and mail their insurance certificate no later than June 1st. Many teams will seek insurance through their school, but if you have difficulty arranging insurance, please contact:
