Solar Car Challenge Update - April 2nd
Good Afternoon Teams! Based on the information within your registrations, it looks like we are going to have a truly exciting event at the Texas Motor Speedway this summer. Congratulations on your good efforts! I would like to make a few important suggestions that may help as you proceed through the next few months: (1) It would be helpful if you took photographs of your solar car construction, or students working on the solar car. These photographs could then be assembled into a scrap book and used during the scrutineering process. One of the key questions asked by Scrutineering Judges is: "Did you (the students) build this solar car?" If you have a scrapbook showing pictures of your construction process, this will provide an immediate answer to that question. The scrapbook is also helpful when meeting with financial sponsors! (2) When you finish the solar car, you are going to want to test and evaluate that car, as well as the drivers of that car. We will be asking Team Sponsors (teacher) to provide written confirmation showing that the team drivers have had adequate experience driving that solar car prior to arriving at this year's race. You will need this documentation when drivers are "qualified" for the race during the Slalom Station. With so many teams racing this summer, it is crucial that the drivers know their vehicle and have experience driving that car. (3) The DFW Marriott Hotel, located across the street from the Texas Motor Speedway, will again be our Official Event Hotel. You will want to make your room reservations for students and teachers/chaperons no later than June 15th to secure the reduced Solar Car Challenge room rate. (4) Please note that The Solar Car Challenge prepares for up to twelve team members and two teacher/sponsors/chaperones. Teams bringing additional people will have to pay an additional charge at Team Check-in. The Solar Car Challenge staff and judges are looking forward to seeing you in July.
