April 1st Solar Car Challenge Registration Date

Good Morning Solar Racers!

Plans are moving forward for this summer's exciting closed-track event at the Texas Motor Speedway. I am looking forward to greeting you and your team at Team Check-in scheduled for 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 16th at the DFW Marriott.

Here are several reminders:

(1) Your official registration packets are due April 1st. Rule 3.6 sets out the guidelines for the information that must accompany your registration data sheets.

Please note that the data in your registration can be amended up to Scrutineering. Our emphasis is placed on getting "some information" from all registrants so that we can begin our evaluation process. It also gives us a better chance to help you during the months leading up to Scrutineering.

(2) We are excited to announce that 26 teams have announced an "Intent-to-Race" in the 2011 Solar Car Challenge. Rule 3.1 sets out the selection process:

Selection of Entries - Entries for the event are selected through a proposal system consisting of the evaluation of the application submitted by teams desiring to participate. The sponsor may select up to twenty proposals total from the classic, open, and advanced divisions to participate in the event. The sponsor may also select up to 5 proposals from the demonstration division to participate in the event. The sponsor reserves the right to reject any proposal.

We will probably accept all qualified teams into this summer's event, but let me encourage you to secure one of the first 20 guaranteed slots by filing a complete registration packet by April 1st.

[Qualified means that the team's solar car has passed scrutineering.]

(3) Please send your registration packets to:

(4) Make checks payable to the Solar Car Challenge

(5) We will be sending out Race Updates during the months leading up to this summer's event. Let me encourage you to designate someone on your team to save a copy of each update for use during 2011 Solar Car Challenge. These updates are designed to clarify, supplement, and provide direction to teams. They will also be posted on the web page at

(6) Please don't hesitate to ask questions. The Solar Car Challenge staff and judges stand ready to help in any way possible.

Best regards,
